Data Engineering Lead

Yoco is embarking upon a wholesale transformation in the way that data is created by source systems. Shifting from a database centric orientation to one based on events and messages between systems. This shift is required in order increase the autonomy of software delivery teams and increase the scalability of our systems as a whole. Such a foundational shift needs to be well considered and built with modern, scalable and reliable technology at its centre. The objective of the Lead Data Engineer is to architect, build and maintain key systems facilitating the transfer and transformation from individual services to a central data platform.
 
ROLE | WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?
 
Your key responsibilities will be to:
 
You will be the first hire in a new Data Engineering area, mediating between the Engineering and the Data teams. 
  • Setting up, and managing, the infrastructure for message transfer
  • Owning the system to ingest and store messaging data in centrally
  • Supporting the Data team by ensuring data is accessible in an easy to consume manner
  • Working closely with Engineering and Data leadership to make sound technical decisions across the entire data ecosystem
  • Establish best practices for moving data between distributed systems
  • Continuously improving our systems to transfer more data, faster with a reducing rate of error
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
 
Key requirements to perform responsibilities:
 
  • 7+ years of production level experience in building and maintaining public cloud-based infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • Strong software development skills in any of the major open source programming languages.
  • Hands on experience with a message-based architecture for distributed services.
  • Experience with loading data into warehouses/lakes.
  • Background with ETL development and large scale data processing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
